N Acetyl Cysteine (NAC)

N-acetyl cysteine is a synthetic derivative of the amino acid L-cysteine. It is the precursor of Glutathione. It is an antioxidant. N-acetyl L-cysteine helps to get rid of harmful free radicals from the body.  It is primarily used as a mucolytic agent and in the management of acetaminophen poisoning. Acetylcysteine can also be used as a general antioxidant which can help mitigate symptoms for a variety of diseases exacerbated by reactive oxygen species (ROS).

Cysteine is found in most high-protein foods, such as chicken, turkey, yogurt, cheese, eggs, sunflower seeds and legumes.
